Lead by the effervescent Johnny Kalsi , The Dhol Foundation is one of the UK’s premiere North Indian dhol ensembles. Kalsi, the UK’s most celebrated player of the Punjabi dhol drum, is no stranger to audiences across Europe. As a member of Afro Celt Sound System, Imagined Village and Trans-global Underground Kalsi has forged more avenues for Punjabi music into the larger music scene and has brought TDF into collaborations with everyone from Avril Lavigne to Amitabh Bachan and into the Hollywood sphere with contributions to films such as Gangs of New York, The Incredible Hulk and The Last Temptation of Christ. Their live show features an energetic lineup of dhols, bass, drums, guitar, dholak, bhangra dancers and guest singers exuding a sound that’s as eclectic as it is forceful. TDF draws influence from a rich pallet of global sounds and it’s the openness to exploring the music of other cultures that has always set TDF apart from other Dhol groups.
