gF Hangout Casuarina

Come party with the globalFEST team and Rio’s hottest choro and samba band for their debut NYC show! As one of the featured artists in gF’s first 35-city North American tour, ‘Creole Carnival’, Casuarina is amongst Brazil’s most respected samba bands. Celebrating their 12th anniversary this year, the group has reached the forefront of a new samba renaissance movement that has risen up in Rio over the past few years and earned praise from both Samba legends as well as modern Brazilian artists. We’ll start off the evening sipping caipirinhas with the gents from the band and Brazilian music guru Paula Abreu who will tell us more about the tradition of samba in Brazil. After drinks, the band will go on and we’ll launch in a no holds barred samba dance party!

Location: Subrosa (63 Gansevoort Street)
Time: 7:30PM to 10PM
Cost: Our group will receive a $15 discounted tickets. Upon RSVP and confirmation, we will share the discount code.

About Casuarina:

Originally from the Rio de Janeiro neighborhood of Lapa, the band plays their repertoire all over the nation and beyond. They’ve brought their ‘samba made in Brazil’ to more than 20 countries including Angola, Cuba, France, Holland, Israel, Italy, Portugal, the United Kingdom and more. In addition to their own compositions, Casuarina creates original, sophisticated and virtuosic arrangements to an old repertory of classic sambas by legendary composers such as Paulinho da Viola, Dorival Caymmi, Martinho da Vila, Adoniran Barbosa, Baden Powell, João Nogueira, Noel Rosa, and more. The modern and beloved samba group conquered the music scene in Brazil and abroad with their irreverence and innovative outstanding quality of arrangements.

Casuarina is composed of Daniel Montes (seven string guitar and arrangements), Gabriel Azevedo (tambourine and lead vocalist), João Cavalcanti (tan-tan and lead vocalist), João Fernando (mandolin, backing vocalist and arrangements) and Rafael Freire (cavaquinho and backing vocal).
